I've posted this video on my Facebook page but I love it oh so much that I had to post it again on The Pacific Muse. Off of John Lennons second solo album Imagine , "Oh Yoko" is written about his wife Yoko Ono and features Nicky Hopkins on piano. The video portrays a true love story between John and Yoko. It makes me believe that there's someone out there who can love you as much as you love them. The upbeat lyrics are a little cheesy, but good cheesy because this song always makes me smile. I personally love the part where John is styling Yoko for her photo shoot and when they're wearing large fur coats around the estate. The ending is kind of weird and awkwardly lengthened but you gotta love them for trying to be goofy. And mark my words when I say, one day I too will make a love story music video with my love..whoever he may be.
New city, new friend. Marie-Joelle Parent is a French Quebec reporter who moved to New York less than a year ago. She's the first NYC correspondent for Sun Media, Canada's largest newspaper publishers. She's been very welcoming and invited me out last night to a friends red themed burlesque birthday party at Kiss and Fly in the Meat Packing District. We danced the night away then cabbed it over to 1 Oak. Look out for her, she's going to be big.
While visiting Toronto, Ontario I came across a beautiful up and coming young designer, a street that had me reminiscing about San Francisco, the Bata Shoe Museum and even got a chance to travel up north to a hidden gem of a town called Muskoka. Bloor St. in Toronto is equivalent to 5th Avenue in New York City. It has everything from Nike Town to Holt Renfrow, which is a terrific upscale department store. In search of the perfect winter boot, I soon got sidetracked and stepped inside Aritzia. Filled with the coziest knit sweaters by Wilfred, two-tone tights and the most helpful employees I’ve ever encountered, I now understood why Aritzia is one of the most favored stores in San Francisco. One sales associate asked if I needed any help and complimented me on my Falls blouse. Her name was Courtney deVries and I was in awe of her perfectly freckled face, auburn hair and effortless style. Being the creepy stalker girl I am, I asked to take her photo for The Pacific Muse. She kindly accepted and I snapped a quickie before her manager could see. However we weren’t that sly and her manager snarled at deVries and I for playing photo shoot. She mentioned how she’s a designer and model, so we exchanged information and now she’s on my blog. Queen St. in Toronto, Ontario is the hippest area in town. Its a mixture of San Francisco's Haight Street and New York's Soho. The red street car rails through Queen every couple of minutes, while track bikes dominate the road. A local Torontonian had her own synopsis of Queen St, "A watering hole for cynical hipsters and sloppy socialites, all the charm one could ask for inspiring creativity and general faith in man kind," says Brady F. The Bata Shoe Museum on Bloor St. in Toronto, exhibits hundreds of shoes from around the world, with over 4,500 years of history. The "chestnut crushing" shoes aka "dominatrix man hating shoes" made a couple of my male friends cringe.
I also loved seeing Queen Victoria's petit ballet flats and gloves on display, because that evening I was heading to the premier of "Young Victoria" at the Toronto International Film Festival. "Young Victoria" Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée
The other day I strolled down to The Mission and visited one of my favorite stores in the city, Belljar. I love the way this boutique is set up for it automatically pulls you in with its intriguing clutter. Belljar's filled with eccentric trinkets, darling dresses, exquisite jewelry, vintage art work, delicious candles and much more pretty little things!
After watching the Laker game (CHAMPIONS!!) at my friend Ali's apartment last night, I was walking home and decided to make a right into Hayes Valley. I stopped at a convenient store for some bubble gum and a man with a Nikon in-hand, started snapping photos. At first, I was a bit reluctant because he didn't ask to take my picture but his charming flattery made me crack a smile, so I didn't mind giving the kind gentleman a pose or two. Last Monday, Sherise and I had quite the adventure while making our way to a design studio in North Beach. We started with brunch at Cafe De La Presse, located at the gates of Chinatown, for bloody marys and quiche, then decided to take the China route to Little Italy, also known as, North Beach. The day was grey and the wind was brisk, when all of a sudden we were stopped by a sign, "Free Tea Tasting!" John, the owner of Vital Tea's in Chinatown, lured us in with his pervertedly witty, yet charming personality. We were seated at the tea bar and welcomed with a warm cup of oolong. Johns flirtatious and informative narratives, accompanied each herbal tea test and he had us cracking up for a solid hour. We left with a bag of the "Gigolo Tea," which came with his mobile # and an uplifting ginseng high.
